UO Police swearing in ceremony

1/25/2012: Had a comment about this a few days ago:

DPS secretly swore in police officers last week and no one from the public was invited. Free lunch and beverages provided along with the rights to be a cop and arrest people. I heard it was mainly the administrators that were sworn in. So if it was administrators becoming full fledged sworn police then what about the officers?

Anyone know any more?

There isn’t a police officer classification for the union yet, that’s why.

So why wasn’t the public invited? Curious.

It might be interesting to find and read the OARs on this subject, which presumably were written up after the governor signed the bill allowing DPS cops to carry guns.

DPS can’t carry guns on campus because the OUS told them no for now. I predict it will be longer with the departure of The Hat and others. The OUS will control DPS for a long time. I wonder if our interim president will do much to curb DPS from wasting more money.
