Last chance for UO shared governance

4/23/2012: The current list of Senate committee nominees and instructions for volunteering are here. I believe nominations close tomorrow. Incentives? Rumor down at the faculty club is that the provost will enter all faculty who volunteer for committee service into a raffle for a slightly used beamer.

Is it true that the Senate President will get a free Beamer?

Any point in signing up for a committee?

    Yes.

It’s possible, maybe even probable, that a union, new prez, an 8.0 magnitude earthquake in Eugene, or fill-in-your-calamity-here will destroy any semblance of faculty governance at UO.

It’s certain it will not exist in any meaningful way if faculty don’t show up and participate in greater numbers.

For all the bluster on this forum, it’s amazing to me that there are so many vacancies. Maybe talk is all we are good at.

Actually, most of the slates are now pretty full, though I don’t know how it compares with previous years.

I gather that Berdahl et al. caved to the union, perhaps because of political pressure from the pro-union Governor?

As far as I’m concerned UO is finished. No more time to waste on committees, it’s tend to my interests in teaching and research and ignore everything else as best I can.
