Former Diversity VP Charles Martinez

gets a shout-out in the ODE. He’s bounced back up from Lariviere’s boot, with tenure and a rather impressive associate professor salary of $153,502. All apparently without an open, affirmative action compliant search. No word on how many other jobs he’s holding down this time. 5/3/2012.

What a flake. More like a weed. Pull it up and toss it and it comes back with a vengence.

What culture shock. The man has identified as white all his life.

charles was plucked as an research associate from a quiet research project corner in the ed school to try to mop up the mess and stiill the troubled waters after the botched, unnecessarily contentious diversity initiative. He didn’t create the problems or make them much better, but i don’t see that he personally made them much worse either. I’m not an apologist, but the double dipping incident was as much a typical failure of JH senior oversight as anything. He was used cynically, so I don’t begrudge him his landing on his feet. He’s back where he should stay for a while. Ok.

There is a word that can be used when you have been asked to do something that you are not qualified for and it is “NO”. Or if you were raised right “No thank you”.
