Senate Pres Paris: Gary, Keyes, or Kyr for UO Trustee

7/23/2013. Her full letter to Kitzhaber’s education aide Ben Cannon, the man who hired the now disgraced Rudy Crew, is here.

At the bargaining session yesterday Sharon Rudnick argued that having this lone, potentially non-voting faculty member on the board (and two more on the “achievement contracts” committee was “better than shared governance – it was direct governance.” These boards can ignore or change the UO Senate and Constitution at will. I’m dubious abut this system, and I’d rather see the Senate and Constitution written into the union contract, where they will be legally enforceable.

But it is what it is, and whomever the Governor appoints is going to need a strong faculty advisory board, elected from the faculty.

      Yes. Thoughtful recommendations.

Yes, and only one of them will represent all of UO. Better than the none we had on the OUS board? Only if the faculty member is an equal participant, keeps the faculty in the loop, and consults regularly with a broad base of senate constituents.

We should have an election for a “UO Board Committee” to make sure this happens.
