Sports writers start to catch on to Altman’s sleazy recruiting

Pat Forde in Yahoo Sports. He starts with a fawning quote from Lorraine Davis, President Gottfredson’s special assistant and probably the person in charge of vetting the Brandon Austin transfer:

This is what Oregon interim athletic director Lorraine Davis said when Altman was hired in 2010: “In addition to the hiring of a basketball coach with strong ethics and solid personal values, there were three criteria that were very important to me and this university during the search. First, we wanted someone who recruited students of high quality and character as individuals, academically as well as athletically. Secondly, we sought someone who ran a clean program with integrity. And third, we went after a coach who had experience with building and maintaining winning programs with the reputation as a great coach. We have that in Dana Altman. It’s a great day for Oregon athletics.”

Then he goes step by step through all the sleazy things Dana Altman has done to the Ducks over the past 4 years. Damning.

Damning indeed and reflective of the unbelievability of not just Altman’s role but Gott’s “timelie”. It just doesn’t hold up to any scrutiny:

“But there is no conceivable world in which a recruiting coup like Austin – he was the No. 45 prospect in the Class of 2013, according to Rivals.com – is suspended for the year at Providence because of a minor occurrence. Oregon’s lack of curiosity in finding out the facts of that situation is striking.”

Can’t wait to see what happens once the public records requests begin to get filled – or don’t. (site finally updated – several new requests).

someone else here mentioned it…but until you get rid of the open sewer Phil Knight/NIKE have created on the campus and in Eugene…there’s not a lot of hope…

That chick who is a professor also alluded to the same thing when she mentioned Penn State…NIKE had a “Joe Paterno Child Development Center” or some such thing on the NIKE campus…say quite a bit about the values of Phil Knight…took Ed Ray of Oregon State to clean up that mess…

I wish I could say you’re wrong, but when you get the AD saying it’s now the University of Nike, all the proof needed that you’re right….

finally gets a mention from a sportswriter. She is the AD’s enabler and has been deep in the shit for years. Keep digging, she’ll be close to the bottom of the pile.

“That chick who is a professor”…please refrain from using the term “chick” to refer to any woman, let alone a professor.
    Thank you.
