University president says no to new athletic facilities

Breaking news here. A university spokesman rejected the proposed sports facility, saying the top priority is state investment on campus:

“Such investment is critical to creating the best possible experience for our students and for creating the kind of infrastructure needed to advance discoveries.”

“At this time, there is not sufficient public support for committing over $350 million in state, city and other funds to a basketball arena and convention center when there are so many well-recognized educational, economic, retirement, and health care needs across Lexington and the Commonwealth of Kentucky.”

Oh, wait, that’s President Eli Capilouto of Kentucky. Here at UO, the latest word is that the women’s softball coach wants a new field, to match money losing PK Park, and the academic side is still paying our jocks $467K for the Mac Court land.
