RE: 2015 University Senate Election Restart—

***Please vote before Tuesday, June 8, 2015***

As of today, the election for the University Senate and elected senate committees has officially restarted with a correct ballot. I strongly encourage you to vote and please note that the election deadline is Tuesday, June 8, 2015.

As you are aware from communications that were sent out about two weeks ago from interim President Coltrane and University Senate President Kyr, we experienced a series of election issues this year. Over the past two weeks, I have investigated these issues with a team of individuals, including Ron C. Bramhall from the Office of Academic Affairs; Chuck Triplett, assistant vice president for university initiatives and collaborations; and Dave Hubin, senior assistant to the president. 

The primary issues that we discovered were:

• Nominee verification and eligibility pertaining to reports of inaccuracies on the ballot;
• Constituent Voting regarding reports by individuals questioning whether they should be permitted to vote across constituencies;
• Participation in situations when individuals were deemed ineligible to vote after logging into Duckweb.

As we addressed these election issues, we relied on following past practices to resolve any problems, as well as the UO Constitution and Senate Bylaws. We can find no policy or reference in the University Constitution that precludes people from voting outside of their constituent group in committee elections, such as the Faculty Advisory Council. We contacted each individual with the help of the deans’ offices and verified eligibility in consultation with Human Resources (HR) and the Office of Academic Affairs. We have also run updated HR lists with expanded query parameters to capture those individuals who were not able to vote the first time around.

As of this morning, elections for the University Senate and elected senate committees have officially begun again. To vote, please log in to Duckweb with your UO ID and PAC number. You will see elections as a menu item in the main menu. The deadline for voting is Tuesday, June 8 at 5 p.m. Shared governance is central to the UO’s mission and operations, and I encourage you to take a moment to vote for your representatives on the University Senate and elected standing committees.

Voting is automatically set up to allow you to vote only for candidates within your constituency group. However, you may view candidates for all open positions on the University Senate and elected committees on the following webpage: 2015 Candidates.
