There were a few other issues, however. The Pulitzer Prize winning Willamette Week broke the news here. The UOPD reports it has begun an investigation, and is working on some promising leads. Video here. The RG has more here, including some quotes.
Pretty disgusting, and another argument for Friday classes.
What benefit do frats have for the UO? Recruiting? Bringing in $$$? What would happen (and how difficult would it be) to get rid of any fraternity that doesn’t have a strict academic mission?
Alumni donations. You kick off a frat you alienate a considerable donor base.
How many intelligent candidates see that and just check us off their list?
The pull quote:
When asked why they might have just abandoned so much personal property, Sandbloom says, “My personal guess is they have no respect for mankind, but professionally, I don’t know.”
Gives a whole new meaning to Zero Waste
Seriously, I was quite mystified why attendance dipped so abruptly last Thursday in my large-enrollment classes. Now I know. Silly me, I thought it might be the norovirus. I guess we’re finally seeing all the benefits of UO’s football success and the quality students it drives to the university. This is tailgate mentality run amok.
I think this is a clear argument for a greek free campus. If we are really serious about academics and our image.
From a frat boy, I completely agree with you. Why does the university need to recognize us/claim us/punish us. Let us live our own lives in our privately owned houses in our free time. If there is a problem, call the cops. Let cops showing up at doorsteps scare freshman off from rushing negligent houses, they’ll die off if they can’t recruit. Admins don’t need to hide their indescretions. Let it be known which frats committ rapes and I’m sure that girls will stop partying at those houses.
Let it be known which fraternities campaign to smear the names and words of survivors of sexual assault first.
