Tax canoes?

That’s the proposal from the Oregon State Marine Board. $10 per year. Kayaks and rafts too. Sailboats over 12′ already need to pay a fee.

Somebody gotta pay for expanded Medicaid, M98 voc ed, and of course my PERS.

Oregon seems to have trouble with impulse control and long range planning when it comes to state finances.

And don’t even think about the next economic downturn.

Sometimes a canoe tax is just a canoe tax. Maybe they’ll use the money to clean the boat launch bathrooms more often.

    Other things to tax —

Gasoline (good for congestion, revenue and the environment)

Bullets (good for fewer accidents, murders, etc)

Alcohol (good for fewer DUI’s, crime, and accidents)

Sugar (newest evidence suggests sugar/soda taxes in Berkeley are actually effective).
