HECC to reconsider denial of UO, PSU tuition increases

So it’s OK (and easier) to ask HECC to reconsider the cap on the hike, but it is IMPOSSIBLE to cut potentially wasteful spending at the UO? What services do we REALLY need? Can the Athletic Department REALLY not cough up the cash that the academic side provides for tutoring their student athletes? Do we REALLY need a gun-carrying police force, in SUVs (as opposed to on foot or bike, or just a Campus Security as in the ‘good old’ days)? Do we really have to pay for the maintenance of all these posh sports buildings that are used by a fraction of our campus demographics? Do ALL students REALLY have to subsidize Duck tickets, whether they are interested in watching games or not? How about cash-hemorrhaging sports programs (B-b-b-baseball)? Is it really impossible to step back for a minute, and consider WHAT we POSSIBLY could do to NOT increase tuition over and over and over again? There WILL be a point when the UO (and other Universities) will have outcompeted themselves because it is simply impossible to afford higher education for a majority of people. And what then?

Getting rid of the uopd would be a fantastic first step. What a boondoggle that’s been!

We will never cut sports. We will cut professors, librarians, and researchers to the bone but never sports.

Since the UO Men’s baseball enterprise has never really entered
national prominence (unlike OSU) and is a non-fan anti-revenue generating sport at some significant level, yes I think it will be
    dropped.

There is no rational argument to keep it.

Yes, I know that the UO is the place where rational arguments
go to die, similar to triples in some glove of yesteryear
