Kevin Reed’s PR office redacts student gov’t campaign contributions

They’re claiming these are educational records protected under FERPA. Michael Tobin and Anakin Welp have the story in the Emerald here. A snippet:

    Wow, this is some hard hitting “journalism”. Headline should read “UO Doesn’t Go Rogue. Adheres to Federal Statute”. Much to the consternation of cub reporters…

      If you read the article, you’ll see that UO initially redacted names that were not protected by FERPA, but backed down after the Emerald appealed to the DA:

      The UO’s Office of Public Records subsequently provided the Emerald with records with some of the redactions removed, in addition to forms from 2019, that specifically show some slate members who had donated to their own slates. However, other redactions remained and the Emerald continued its appeal. The Office of Public Records cited FERPA as the reason for maintaining the redactions.

    I just KNOW they were trying to hide those two names. Shame on the UO and their nefarious cover ups!
