UO Administration to renovate faculty offices in PLC!

Of course I’m kidding. We’re in a budget crisis. So the Administration is going to renovate administrator offices in Johnson Hall. What a surprise. RFP here:

Regarding PLC – I think you meant to use the word “remove” for faculty in PLC

Is this part of why they’re raising tuition 7%?

The cost of this should be watched.

When I was on the FAC, we got the University to do an earthquake study of PLC. Result: everyone working there is doomed. Nothing happened, though, because there were five other buildings that were even worse and the administration said they couldn’t begin to pay to upgrade them all. I think this was right after the UC system upgraded all of its buildings to handle earthquakes.

Here’s the scope of work from that doc:

SUMMARY: REMOVE EXISTING NON-BEARING FURNITURE PANEL WALLS, INSTALL NON- BEARING INTERIOR WALLS TO CREATE TWO OFFICES & STORAGE ROOM. SELECTIVE
DEMOLITION OF NON-BEARING INTERIOR WALL TO ALLOW PASS THROUGH BETWEEN 10C AND 10D. REVISE MECHANICAL, ELECTRICAL, AND DATA/COMM. SYSTEMS.

    ALTERNATE 1: PAINT WALLS AND TRIM IN ROOMS 1B, 1C, 1D, 19 & 20

This seems pretty limited for a “renovation of JH offices”.

I’ve only walked through JH once, but my recollection was that it was surprisingly run-down and smelled a bit moldy. Certainly a far cry from the alumni building, the law school, the EMU, or even the rec center. More like Deady Hall.

Maybe this one deserves a pass?

So, say a couple of SEIU positions?
