Harper warns Faculty Club members to leave sgian-dubh at home Wed

Dear Colleagues,

The Faculty Club will be open this week during the usual hours, with gatherings on Wednesday and Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00.

Wednesday, we join Scots and Scot-o-philes around the world in the annual celebration of the birthday of revolutionary poet Robert Burns (b. 1759). Barbara Mossberg, poet and professor in the Honors College, will start the six-o-clock toast with a dramatic reading of some of Burns’s work. The bartenders are working on a custom cocktail for the evening, which will doubtless include Scotch as one of the ingredients. So put on yer kilt, yer sporran and yer glengarry bonnet (or not) and come join us.

Thursday is Wild Card Night—there’s no theme, so anything could happen!

Hope to see you, and any guests you’d like to bring, one or both nights.

Yours, James Harper
Chair of the Faculty Club Board
