Board of Trustees to hold public retreat on 10-year plan

That would, of course, be the OSU board, which emails regular public notices of its meetings to a public listserv. Here at UO, BOT Secretary Angela Wilhelms provides no such transparency.

The Oregon State University Board of Trustees will hold a retreat on Wednesday, Oct. 16, to discuss assumptions underlying the university’s 10-year business forecast and strategic plan, consider headwinds facing higher education and the university over the next decade, and explore transformational strategies to address the most pressing headwinds. The retreat will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Reser Stadium Loge, 660 S.W. 26th St. in Corvallis. Participation will be limited to invited guests, but members of the public may attend.

The following board committees will meet on Thursday, Oct. 17, in the Memorial Union, 2501 S.W. Jefferson Way in Corvallis. These meetings are also open to the public:

  • The Executive and Audit Committee will meet from 8 to 10 a.m. in the Horizon Room to consider the Office of Audit, Risk and Compliance’s progress report; the board’s fiscal year 2019 assessment of OSU President Ed Ray; the committee’s 2020 work plan; and a board policy review. The board also will hear the annual compliance and ethics and legal counsel reports.
  • The Finance and Administration Committee will meet from 10:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Memorial Union’s Multipurpose Room to consider quarterly financial reports; the committee’s 2020 work plan; and amendments to the Public University Fund Investment policy. The committee also will consider capital project updates on the PacWave energy project, remodeling of Cascades and Cordley halls, and plans to construct a second academic building at OSU-Cascades, as well as improvements to Washington Way through the university’s Corvallis campus, plans for a Corvallis campus operations center, and restoration work occurring within Burt Hall following a fire last winter. The committee also will hear an update on the Athletics financial sustainability plan.
  • The Academic Strategies Committee will meet from 10:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Horizon Room to consider establishing new academic programs in biological data sciences and music studies and a proposal to terminate an existing program in applied physics. The committee will discuss its 2020 work plan, lab safety matters, faculty affairs, and global engagement and internationalization.

The full board will meet on Friday, Oct. 18, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Horizon Room of the Memorial Union. This meeting is open to the public. The board will consider action items recommended by the committees and the board’s 2020 work plan. The board also will hear a report on advancing equity, inclusion, and social justice and review the fundamentals of board governance.

The board will also hold an execution session on Friday, Oct. 18, pursuant to ORS 192.660(2)(d) to conduct deliberations with persons designated by the governing body to carry on labor negotiations.

A public comment period is provided at each board meeting. Commenters may register by e-mail before the meeting by emailing [email protected]or may register at the meeting itself. There is also a public comment opportunity before the board votes on each action item listed on the board agenda.

    Damn, those OSU trustees mean business. I mean, holding “an execution session of Friday, Oct. 18…”. Will heads roll?

      Good catch. UAUO’s Dave Cecil is negotiating for their faculty union – I’ll pass on the warning that he might want to stay out of Corvallis on the 18th:
