UO assistant coaches in USA Today

12/22/2010: USA Today has a long report on the recent explosion in salaries for assistant football coaches, with a special focus on Oregon. At UO there are 9 assistants, making an average of over $400,000 each, with bonuses. Add in Kelly’s $3.5 million, Altman’s $1.5, Mullens’s $600,000, and the $2.3 million Bellotti payoff, and it’s pretty clear where every fucking dollar of profit athletics will ever make for UO will end up. That’s competition for you. No wonder Jamie Moffitt had to ditch the bookstore contract!

Odd that the university presidents who ostensibly run the NCAA are so incapable of controlling this competition among the coaches, while they are geniuses at keeping the players to a $12,000 stipend plus tuition.
