3/10/2011: Dave Frohnmayer, that is. Here’s his contract with Nike’s Howard Slusher, requiring UO to provide athlete only parking, in return for them taking the Jock Box land from us for $1. On top of this students pay $2 million a year to run it. Phil Knight’s deal with UO calls for the athletic department to pay this, but Provost Bean decided to pay it from general state support and tuition. Ask him why. In exchange for selling out UO, Frohnmayer got $490,000 from Pat Kilkenny for his Fanconi Foundation. Latest installment here – gotta love the name of Kilkenny’s foundation:
Now they are paving over part of UO’s “urban farm” for the athletes only parking lot. Sanne Godrey, reporting today in the ODE from the environmental front, has an unusual ability to type while maintaining a straight face. Weeds. Insects. Folks. I love it. You will go far, Sanne.
“The loss of plant habitat is always a concern,” said Harper Keeler, interim director of the Urban Farm. “Although the plants in the lot were weeds to many folks, they were very useful in providing habitat for beneficial insects, which, in turn, helps the garden.”
The Northside Parking Lot provides 150 parking spots, which will be available for student-athletes only. Parking permits for these spots cost $225 per student for winter term and $150 for spring term.
