4/4/2011: I was fully prepared to make fun of the “Bias Response Team” and its event-packed awareness week, but the truth is it looks like the most diverse diversity event on campus yet, by far. See you in the Tunnel of Oppression. Glad to see the students are acting like adults – sets a good example for our administrators.
I have a mild mental illness, technically a disability, legally a protected status…. The BRT’s “bias reporting form” is actually the most biased thing I’ve seen on campus so far, as it lumps all disabilities in with physical ones.
Naturally, I sent the team a letter in an attempt to make them feel as guilty as possible. Based on the butthurt response, I don’t think it worked.
Tunnel of Oppression??!! That is so last-century. Really, if Oppression Studies is what UO is all about, I have better ways to spend my money.
If all you are trying to do is to make the BRT feel guilty, maybe you are approaching this all wrong? You have a mild mental illness, ok. Work with the BRT and suggest something with their form…maybe take a different approach. It probably did not work because you are approaching all of this all wrong.
