Quacks like a subsidy

6/28/2011: UO’s Athletic Director Rob Mullens claims the Ducks are self supporting and don’t take any money from the state or the academic general fund. USA Today got the spending data from most Division I schools via public records requests. They report the Ducks took $2.6 million last year, up from $1.5 million in 2006:

These numbers come from UO’s annual report to the NCAA. This report counts the ASUO payments for tickets as a subsidy – this doesn’t seem correct. It includes $1.1 million in state lottery funds. It does *not* includes subsidies such as the jock box tutoring, FAR costs, legal, parking garage bond payments.
