1/4/2011: Somebody leaked this pissy letter from Dave Frohnmayer and William Gary to Gov. Kulongoski, regarding AG Kroger’s report on the DOJ investigation of energy contracts with Kitzhaber’s girlfriend:
As an experienced prosecutor, Mr. Riddell certainly must have understood that Mr. Long has a constitutional right to decline a request to interrogate him. It was not clear where or how Mr. Riddell intended to “document” Mr. Long’s supposed non-cooperation until this morning. However, public dissemination of such a statement is defamatory and exacerbates the damage that Mr Long already has sustained as a result of the State’s conduct of this investigation.
That’s a serious charge. Later in the letter they accuse Kroger’s investigator of lying. The Kafkaesque part – yes, Frohnmayer uses that word – is that Kroger decided *not* to investigate Long. Nigel Jaquiss of the Willamette Week has the story, which makes everyone involved look like total idiots.
Frohnmayer and Gary wrote the letter on Wednesday, and Jaquiss had the leaked pdf posted Monday at 1:5 PM. Friday was a holiday. Kroger’s transparency initiative is working!
