Journalism dean search fails

2/1/13: I don’t know why, but the search to replace SOJC dean Tim Gleason has failed to produce an acceptable candidate. UO ad here. The search was led by the outside search firm Isaacson Miller – apparently Bob Berdahl’s choice. Next steps presumably include reaching farther down the list or appointing an interim.

Query: Does the union have an ethical duty of nonmaleficence?

    • Anonymous says:

Does administration have the same duty?

    • Anonymous says:

Certainly, as the agent of the university, the administration has a duty to do no harm to the university. Does the union have such a duty with respect to faculty?

    • Anonymous says:

And if they fail that duty as they certainly have?

If you mean the administration, that would depend on the nature of the harm. As to the union, I’m not sure they have such a duty. Thus, the question.

Bean says there is a committment to faculty diversity at UO? and these are the Dean candidates? Eugenean Mike Luckovich’s cartoon seems appropriate: http://blogs.ajc.com/mike-luckovich/2013/01/11/0113-luckovich-cartoon-diversity/?cxntfid=blogs_mike_luckovich

The candidates probably read UOM and decided UO and our Beamer provost are not for them….
