Gottfredson hires new PR flacks to deal with questions about the cover-up

Meanwhile he’s still lying, saying FERPA prevents him from saying who knew what when. The Daily Emerald editorial board calls him out:

Our stance: Let’s end the silence surrounding sexual assault at the University of Oregon:

The UO administration has frivolously used the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act — a law intended to protect a student’s educational record — in order to defer any questions about the incident, creating a general lack of trust among the media and many faculty members.

It’s a sad day when our President won’t talk to the students and faculty about something this important without first running it by a paid flack. Besides, he’s already paying Tim Gleason and Toby Klinger for that job. Details later on what this new firm is costing, and who is paying:

Subject: PR request for public relations or law firm contracts

Dear Ms Thornton

This is a public records request for copies of any contracts or agreements or work descriptions between UO and PR or law firms dealing with the recent basketball sexual assault allegations or related matters.

I ask for a fee waiver on the grounds of public interest, and request you expedite this request on the basis of the current interest in this matter.

Several other public records requests have already been filed about the cover-up, the log is here. You can file mirror requests for the documents – if Dave Hubin’s office ever produces them – at [email protected]. A few months back Hubin was using fees and delays to prevent student reporters from getting basic data on UO’s spending on sexual assault services. Expect more of the same from this office. It reports directly to our President Mike Gottfredson, who has a lot to hide here!
