As far as crime goes on campus — how much, where it occurs, how often — it’s safe to assume that any time there’s an event – a game at Autzen Stadium or a concert at Matthew Knight Arena, among others – the numbers will spike.
Sorry, this is a big “duh” and not really news. Of course there is a crime spike when there are large gatherings of people, especially if alcohol is involved.
Not the athletic department’s fault. It’s large numbers of college students’ fault.
And that “Campus crime spike” from your headline? It was the week of Thanksgiving, in addition to being a home-game weekend.
