New Gov Kate Brown promised $40M in tax money for Knight track meet

Jeff Mapes of the Oregonian has a report comparing the priorities and campaign donors of John Kitzhaber and Kate Brown, here. Phil Knight stands out for his $250K contribution for Kitz, and nothing for Brown. Despite this, Brown did fly to Doha, to deliver Kitzhaber’s promise of $40M in state tax money to subsidize the UO/Knight unsuccessful bid for the 2019 World Track Championships. “First, Secretary of State Kate Brown, the second highest ranking official ….”:

It sure would be interesting to see what UO’s presidential archives have, or don’t have, on this bid, for which UO Foundation Chair Paul Weinhold was prepared to mortgage UO to the hilt.

    Nike gets whatever it asks for. Whether it’s corporate tax breaks or outright gifts of $40M for one of its pet projects. Knight calls the tune and our elected officials dance to it.
