College admissions experts on Chinese cheating

Meeting in Eugene now, as reported in InsideHigherEd:

“It blows my mind that students who cheat on the SAT get to take the test again — why aren’t they outed to all of your schools?” said Hamilton Gregg, a counselor at Harrow International School, in Beijing, who wrote a blog post for OACAC this spring titled “Is the Admission Process Broken?” (and chaired a session by that same name on Wednesday).

Yes, cheating is an issue at the core of the integrity of online classes as well, including right here in river city. The social science instructional lab Addressed these issues, including the use of vetted proctors more than a decade ago, but their protocols are not universally used on campus. At one campus wide meeting on distance Ed, the issue was dismissed by one our anointed distance Ed gurus with the statement that cheating happens in regular classes too, and then ignored, as usual.
