That’s the conclusion from outside campus planning consultant Robert Sabbatini, as reported by Diane Dietz in the RG here. It looks like we could squeeze in another 1,000 or so if Collier House, that ugly firetrap between Johnson Hall and the EMU, would just happen to catch fire on some reasonably dry night. The UO BOT Facilities and Finance Committee will discuss the report this Thursday at 9AM in the Ford Alumni Giustina Ballroom and they have posted it here, but as almost completely illegible black and white pdfs:

I see a lot of squares north of the tracks. Isn’t that the riverfront area that was vehemently contested a few years back? As a consequence the ORI was located south of the tracks on Millrace 1700 instead of near EWEb or so. Well – Good luck with those student apartments. If they are ever built there will be a great view on the Willamette. …

Echoing Canaduck – replacing Onyx Bridge should be the next priority! Its internal infrastructure is as bad as the outside looks.
I don’t work in Onyx Bridge so can’t speak to the interior problems; but I have always thought that a zippy multi-colored paint job would do a lot for that whole quad.
Or maybe a new brick facade – or better, recycled from the PLC leftovers?
no the interior or Onyx bridge is a total Cold War Gray Institutional box with all creativity and imagination purposefully removed – sometime reminds me of inside of a cold war relic submarine. I think we still have frozen commies in various lockers. Imagine trying to hire a state of the art scientist and showing them that place. A bit like showing potential athletes our facilities in the early 1990s – but hey – they invested – gee what a game plan …
