Still more unsportsmanlike conduct from Duck football players

Last updated on 11/19/2016

11/18/2016: In the RG here:

Holland [a recent UO graduate] claims that Darren Carrington, a wide receiver on the Ducks football team whom he had just watched play in the game against Arizona State, assaulted him early on Oct. 30, pushing him to the ground outside an apartment complex near East 15th Avenue and Alder Street.

His right arm broke on impact — a fracture to the head of the radius — and he said surgery may be needed. The radius is one of the two forearm bones. The head is part of the elbow joint.

Carrington’s identity as the attacker, Holland said, was unmistakable.

“He has a back tattoo that says ‘Carrington,’ so if that wasn’t enough, or that we recognized him anyway, it was a fairly good indicator who he was when he started taunting me,” Holland said.

Carrington was shirtless and had been costumed as The Joker — a villain from the Batman films — earlier in the night, as seen on Carrington’s Instagram account. While he was no longer wearing his Joker costume, Holland said, there was still evidence of Carrington’s white-face makeup. Holland said that Carrington was making comments such as “Yeah, that’s right; I am Darren Carrington. Oregon Ducks wide receiver. Number 7. San Diego. Best receiver in the country,” immediately after the assault.

This appears to be another price paid for $500 million. We get a few scientists (who may have to wear different Nike lab coats each week) but also declining enrollment and party school status. Is it really worth being lap dog to one billionaire who has so much influence on a university? A university once known in my day for its independent thinking?
Perhaps multiple mid-level donors is a better long term strategy. They might feel more comfortable without the richest man in the room sucking out all the air.

I love UO Matters’ studied indifference to Coach Helfrich’s first name. It can’t be that that hard to remember Mike Helfrich.

You’re sure it’s Mike? Maybe I should Google it. Naah.

Anyway, did Mike just win me a chance to go on a bowl game junket by playing an athlete who’s been accused of assault?
