$2,500 for the tiniest marginal utility in recruiting. They must have a lot of money to burn if that kind of money for a tiny benefit is considered a reasonable idea.
I’m surprised there aren’t more comments about this. Yes, it’s a small amount of money, but aren’t more of us disgusted by the symbolism of the football coach getting not one, but four, police motorcycle escorts just to drive around Eugene-Springfield? It’s surely a sign of how demoralized we are that this just passes for another daily ho-hum example of the Athletic Department’s willful arrogance. They clearly have no fear, or shame. And we, the faculty, are reduced to ineffective whining on blogs. What fun.
The city of Eugene needs to reign in its out of control police department. Getting bribed to escort coaches around town so they can speed and run red lights? Not even the Springfield police think this is ethical! Wake up Vinis! Wake up city council!

“..each request is reviewed by EPD staff for approval. Approval criteria include any potential for a large crowd or a safety issue, Hankemeier said.”
This actually makes a lot of sense. Would you rather have the coaches driving drunkenly around town without an escort?
Actually, coaches driving around with escorts are sometimes a problem….
Note to music department: Anything you can do for the tone-deaf jock executives at the Hatfield-Dowlin temple?
