University to redirect Museum funds to Frohnmayer’s Steam Plant?

The RG’s Christian Hill has the story on the $26M redo of the EWEB steam plant, here:

… With a mix of commercial debt, equity from investors and tax credits, the team estimates a $4.1 million funding gap and likely would seek public dollars for the project…

A project like this needs some tenant guarantees to lock in funding, and it appears developer Mark Frohnmayer has found one:

Naturally there’s a tie-in to the UO Foundation’s tax-payer subsidized IAAF 2021 championships as well.

Does this have the potential to be another Riverfront Research Park?

    Better watch out!

I don’t know. However, I will say it is crazy for tax payers to fork out $4.1M to Arcimoto guy.

I hope they have an ice cream store… and a coffee shop. I always want ice cream when I ride by in the summer, and coffee when I ride by in the winter. A taco place would be good too.

Coffee is part of UO’s core academic mission, and I can understand subsidizing it at the cost of museums. Not sure sure about the ice cream and tacos though.

Say what you want, the stuff happening on the riverfront of some of the first improvements the university capital expenditure has offer to the city of Eugene in a while.

Why no posting on the “internal search” for provost?

Because I was helping teach a class on free speech and then I went out for drinks and dinner with some friends and had a great time and was trying to avoid blogging tonight, but I guess not, so it’s now posted. Happy?
