Why is it that academic units seem to be the only ones affected by the hiring freeze?
What’s the problem here, exactly? Other than the embarrassingly low salaries OAs get paid?
A low salary, and no union job security. Nice. Does SEIU ever fight these ridiculous OA positions that should clearly be classified staff positions? This position does not supervise any non-student employees.
For comparison, this salary is at Step 7 for SEIU’s Architectural Drafter 2 classification, and the job has a lot more responsibilities than just drafting. The position requires a bachelor’s degree plus five years of experience, for starters.
Embarrassing is the word.
The SEIU does fight the OA positions that shouldn’t be. Alas, there are so *many* fights they gotta fight on this campus!
I believe SEIU is looking into the OA situation on campus.
