this policy would have prohibited several of my own research projects over the years, based primarily on my use of confidential data on individual subjects from federal sources, access to which was restricted by application and agreement to maintain the confidentiality of the individual subject data. None of which involved secret DOD type research. is this really what is intended? if so, it is absolutely a violation of my academic freedom, and this from my faculty colleagues? Please tell me I am misreading the policy.
Tell me more and I’ll bring it up in the Senate.
Data that is confidential because of subject privacy should be distinct from the federal classification level confidential (which by definition must relate to national security), but this policy (now more than 2 years old) isn’t clear. Defining classified research more specifically would be a help (at least have it refer to 32 CFR 2001)
Yes, thanks, that would ease my concerns
