4/18/2012: In case you had no idea what was the source of that sweet smell drifting over from the “student athlete” apartments in The Kilkenny Towers. Patrick Malee has the story in the ODE. ESPN report here. The consensus is that the wide dissemination of the fact that Oregon law forbids random drug tests should make if much easier to sign those special admits for the Duck football team. Malee also has an interesting post on the twitter history of this shocking outbreak of reefer madness, here. It’s interesting how reporters use twitter. The UO Matters feed is here.
ESPN Dog
Over the last 4 years, ESPN has done at least 5 in depth, investigative reports about the UO football program, including the recruiting visit duck “escort” program (which no longer exists).
Until the Ohio State Scandal, the UO was number one on the ESPN investigative radar.
Of course, locally, we don’t give a shit about that.
duck escorts? do post a link, or better a photo.
Dog says
if you really must know here are details of similar programs; again UO
stopped theirs after the ESPN expose (which I can’t easily find)

specifically is about the UO – I guess this happened longer ago than
I thought – I don;t have many functioning neurons any more, I have worked
at the UO way too long.
Dog posts an excerpt
Not sure when the TeamWork program was abandoned, probably around 2004.
Reporting on activities at the University of Oregon and Arizona State, but representative of most Division I-A programs, the story looked at the use of female students as “hostesses” for the 48-hour visits to campuses of high school players.
Called “Teamwork” at Oregon, the practice has been upgraded to provide class credit, and now involves some actual paperwork. But the point of the exercise, made obvious by the fact that all the enrollees are female and good looking, is to show the guys a good time.
No women were under orders to have sex, but two UO students volunteered stories about parties where sex and booze were easily available to the high school kids, and said they quit the program primarily because they resented the campus-wide reputation that all “Teamwork” members were sluts.
While many recruiting visits produce nothing more than harmless fun, Ducks football player Eddie Smith was quoted on camera raving about how important it was to have good-looking women on the visit, because “guys have sex, sex, sex on their minds.”

This is the program that was run by Lorraine Davis?
Good thing the NSF doesn’t test the science PIs.
As grant pay lines get more competitive you can certainly expect to smell strange odors emanating from more PIs offices.
Weed really helps fleshing out the NIH specific aims section, but 4 out of 5 PI’s prefer Adderall for cranking out the research strategy part of their R01.
