No, I’m not talking about UO’s Jim Bean. I’ve heard nothing to suggest that anyone at UO was less than forthright with Northeastern about Bean’s inadequate performance as former UO Interim Provost. Josephine Woolington has the story on Berman in the RG, here.
But the story says that board member Jim Torrey actually gave them the lowdown on Berman, probably not in writing. Anyhow, there is no reason for them not to know what was going on in Eugene, if anyone in that Mass. town knows how to use google.
Their “glowing report” on him was part of the fig leaf to get him to leave as unobtrusively as possible. Maybe UO would be better off if Lariviere and Gottfredsen hadn’t been sacked so publicly?
on an unrelated topic — a commencement speech by a UO non-faculty type — the guy actually is funny! The UO senate should invite him to talk — I’m sure he’d appreciate it. He could also advise the faculty union on bargaining with UO.
