I have heard that if the union passes, faculty who supervise RAs and postdocs are likely to eventually be kicked out of the bargaining unit because they are supervisors. Which has the potential to fracture TTFs between grant-haves and have-nots. I can’t make the meeting, but I hope they address this issue.

      dog barks

well that’s a subset of the research based fracture that’s inherent in the
      NTTF vs TTF situation.

While what is written above might apply to Postdocs, I can’t imagine that
it would or should apply to faculty that supervise graduate student RAs.

In any event, this dog remains in the dark on what the actual “bargaining” unit is, and who it bargains with (which I am pretty sure is not the UO,
      but rather OUS).

same goes for dept heads and so on down the line much misled and eventually costly naivete’ If you were at a wonderfully led U with strong cooperation between faculty and admin., would you want to come to a place where the relations are formally confrontational? We will get the kinds of leader who don’t much mind high levels of conflict– no more paul okums, not even a myles brand. we’ll get what we asked for–al because the most recent gaggle of J hall administrators utterly failed and betrayed us, but let’s not cut our nose off to spite our face. surely we’re capable of reengagin and organizing sared governance to work for all without going to te heavy, formally confontationL Mechanism of a union Perhapswe could summon the wisdom and humility to seek out retired faculty leaders to help us learn how it can be done. I remember how well it seemed to work on campus years ago. but sign me a romantic.
