They do bingo during halftime at the Men’s and Women’s basketball games
Cash prizes?
Yeah, usually a few hundred dollars cash prize and it seems to vary game to game. $1 a bingo sheet, but I’m not sure if it all goes into a pool for the winner or if the corporate sponsor just ponies up the cash and the AD pockets the rest.
Is this just a Duck thing, or is there some nationwide, historical link between basketball and bingo?
.
From the IRS report it looks like they bring in about $50K from the sheets and pay out about $21K in prizes. A worse deal than the lottery, and then there’s having to watch Dana Altman before and after. No wonder the take is so low.
.
Supposedly the house cut goes for scholarships.
Back in the Mac Court days a women’s booster club called the “Daisy Ducks” did bingo at basketball halftimes to raise funds. I assume some version of that has moved over into the Knight Arena.
Someone needs to look into the books with CMS crowd management services….when those guys manage duck parking during events there are always large stacks of cash in hand and a person I know who worked for em says they are shady as hell and a driver I know who worked for UO says there is some really weird stuff going on with CMS…he did not fully explain it to me but something like the CMS guys exclude him from any spot he usually is allowed to park during UO arena events.
Bi-Mart is the sponsor and the prize is a gift card to the store. The prize is split with other winners. The money goes to a Daisy Duck scholarship fund for UO student athletes for their expenses not covered by their athletic scholarships. Or at least, that’s my understanding.
Yes, it seems Bingo is the least scandalous aspect of Duck basketball. More on how readers can help them raise scholarship money here: https://uofastbreakclub.typepad.com/uo-fast-break-club/about.html
Why do you need a license for bingo? Talk about too much government.
If it was easy, everyone would do it.
