EUGENE, Ore. — Lane Community College says students and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before arriving on campus September 27 for fall term.
LCC stepped up the push this week by announcing that 300 fully vaccinated students will receive $500 prizes for their effort.
The money is part of a $150,000 lottery funded by the federal Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund.
“It’s all-hands-on-deck time,” LCC President Margaret Hamilton said. “As a community, we need to get out the message that vaccinations are safe and effective. They save lives and will help turn this pandemic around.”
According to LCC:
The vaccine lottery is open to all credit and non-credit students. No application is needed. Winners will be drawn at random from registered students who upload proof of vaccination.

The UO Covid site “Physical distancing is no longer required. However, individuals are encouraged to maintain distance when possible, especially when eating or if not fully vaccinated.”
With this it’s full-on butts in every seat in classrooms. Wonderful. Glad we know what’s going on. But, what should actually be going on? Crickets…. If this is the plan then with what’s going on currently in Lane Co I’d rec not going in any classroom. Delta Force is the most dangerous unit we’ve had to combat yet.

I imagine they must be tossing and turning at night — they need the in-person “college experience” to attract enough students — but the virus seems to be exploding out of control again, vaccine or no vaccine — the vaccines really don’t seem to work so well on the delta variant. If they insist on doing things in-person, I predict a lot of faculty bailing six weeks from now (assuming the current virus eruption hasn’t subsided by then — look at the UK and go figure — but then look at Israel, and go figure some more). My best guess — I don’t call it a prediction — is they end up with some kind of “remote lite” to try to get them through.
The guidance provided on the UO website is taken directly from CDC guidance for institutions classified as “fully vaccinated campuses.” Once the Gov lifted the Exec Orders on higher ed, institutions were told to follow CDC guidance.
