Roger Thompson leaves to be Pres at St. Mary’s, Jim Brooks to be interim

Congrats to Thompson, and good luck to Brooks in a crazy year for admissions. My experiences w/ Brooks were all positive, including one year where the TFAB convinced Schill to devote a good chunk of a tuition increase to increased need-based scholarships.
Dear colleagues,
I am writing to announce that Roger Thompson, vice president for student services and enrollment management, will be leaving the university to become the president of St. Mary’s College of California. During his nearly 14 years at the University of Oregon, Roger has had a remarkable impact on the institution. From almost annually recruiting the largest, most academically accomplished, and most diverse classes in our history, to his advocacy for creating extraordinary student services, few people have left such a mark on the university. We are deeply grateful to Roger for his service and leadership.
Roger successfully worked to expand enrollment numbers and was responsible for improvements in student housing, dining, university health services, and the launch of the student welcome center. He designed and implemented a 10-year strategic plan for university enrollment growth that is currently progressing ahead of the established schedule.
Under his leadership, the UO opened three new residence halls and expanded and renovated the university’s health center. In addition, Roger helped raise funds to expand scholarships at the UO, create a new financial literacy program for students, and enhance student leadership development programs.
Before he arrived at the University of Oregon, he was vice provost for enrollment management and special advisor to the president at Indiana University in Bloomington.
Roger’s final day at the University of Oregon will be July 19. Jim Brooks, the senior associate vice president for student services and enrollment management and director of student financial aid and scholarships, has agreed to serve as interim vice president.
Please join me in congratulating Roger on his new position.
Sincerely,

Karl Scholz
President
