And don’t miss their op-ed from Monday, calling to an end to federal tax subsidies for big-time college sports and for the salaries like the one UO pays Mr. Mullens: http://www.forbes.com/sites/joshfreedman/2013/12/23/subsidized-saturdays-the-tax-free-world-of-college-football/
In the coming weeks, the nation’s top college football teams will face off in the Bowl Championship Series, which is comprised of the National Championship game and four other regional match-ups. These games will draw millions of television viewers and turn four sunny cities into college football meccas. It is a time of football, frolicking, and not paying taxes: The sponsorship deals, the luxury boxes, and the bowl games themselves are all actually tax-favored nonprofit activities, items, and organizations.
The BCS is just the tip of the iceberg. Welcome to the weird, tax-free world of college sports.
Nasty stuff. Certainly we at Oregon wouldn’t benefit from that or participate in anything so filthy. We’re better than that.
Rob is looking for a new job. Olympics? Or maybe his agent is just trolling to get him a bigger contract at UO.
