Newspaper editorial assails new UO Board for secrecy

In the Albany Democrat-Herald, here:

One of the worries we had regarding these governing boards was that they would feel no particular allegiance to the idea that the public’s business needed to be conducted in public. These early moves by the University of Oregon’s board have done nothing to ease those fears – and are setting a dreadful example for other boards at other Oregon public universities.

I love this blog; I honestly do.
But it has been a big supporter of UO having an independent board. Now, there is even more secrecy and stonewalling. A university president can cover up a sexual assault investigation and is only quietly removed with a huge payoff–likely because of donor push back instead of internal ethical outrage. He should have been forced to testify in front of the legislature. It is obvious there needs to be more public oversight of universities rather than less.
    Suggestions?

No No No No, we can not possibly have more public oversight of universities rather than less. Can you imagine all the “inappropriate sighing”, “making ironic comments” and “projecting negative body language” that that would bring into the public! I would be too damaging for our brand!
    Go Dicks!
