UO’s website claims “Funding: Fully funded by gifts from Penny and Phil Knight and more than 50 other donors”. That is not entirely true:

Bill;
Thanks for your patience as my team dug into the expenditures. The following is a summary of what I found:
Cell Tower – A new cell tower was installed in 2017 at a cost of $1,114,051.07. It replaced the existing cell tower, and was located further south to allow for the extended footprint of the Hayward Enhancement project, and allow for extended signal strength. The majority of the funding came from the Foundation, the university contributed about 6.3%, or just over $70,000.
Utility Tunnel – The project connects main campus utilities to the Hayward Enhancement project, and was completed in 2020 at a cost of $3,293,256.34. In addition to serving the new Hayward Field, it allows us to complete a new electrical loop on the south end of campus, giving us greater redundancy in emergency situations, and simplifying our future maintenance tasks. Additionally, the infrastructure was installed for a future telecommunication and electrical loop which will directly benefit Bean Hall, Global Scholars Hall, Kalapuya Ilihi Hall, as well as provide important redundancies for other parts of campus. The project was split between gifts to the Foundation and the university. The university’s contribution was about 65% or just over $2.15 million.
Human Phys – The current projection is to begin construction July, with a budget of $4.6 million. The new facility will be located in the new Hayward Field complex, and will be twice as large as the previous facility, allowing for enhanced faculty research engagement. The project is expected to be funded by a combination of university funds and $3.1 million of gift funds.
The Hayward Field project is paying for the new Powell Plaza, the 15th Avenue enhancements and improvements, and the replacement recreation fields adjacent to the Student Recreation Center. The new fences, flag poles, and streetscape features along Agate are all part of the Hayward Field project. In addition, the project is creating a new pedestrian path to the south of the stadium that will connect the existing path next to Jane Sanders Stadium with 17th Avenue (across the street from the fire station).
I hope this answers your questions and highlights the positive impacts of this project on the campus fabric.

Hi Mike, a clarifying question: when you write “the university” or “university funds” etc. below do you mean the E&G fund? Thanks,

I believe in most cases the university funds are central E&G funds.

Sure, another snarky phildo post. That’s fine. A few days ago, when Schill announced opening in the fall, all the armchair experts here in the comments were alarmed. Now that the Provost is telling us they are indeed working on the specifics and people’s safety is at the forfront… Crickets from this blog. You are quick to whine and quick to criticize. Seems like Schill can’t win with you no matter what he does. Asking for transparency is great – auto pilot negativity and snark are just not that helpful.
I’ve been here through more provosts than a dog has ticks, and few things are more frightening than hearing “the Provost is telling us they are indeed working on the specifics”. Page down past the dick pic and you’ll find some actual facts – as reported by the administration.
No, sorry, dude
A dog has a shitload of ticks
We have only had 6-7 provosts during your time here – but none of them were ever transparent or direct or, in my personal opinion, useful for catalyzing change in the institution.
not even Banavar?
I think Banavar tried and then discovered what the Oregon way actually meant
I think Banavar, and Patrick Phillips have done a great service to the UO community. They have shown that UO is willing to pay very high 9 month academic salaries to professors in science, salaries of~ $375K and~ $280 K. That’s the good news. I wonder who else UO considers worth those kind of salaries?[ I realize there are a few other scientists at UO in that range]. But no distinguished/world-class ecologist should ever consider UO for a salary under, say, $300K. Perhaps UO is considering increasing the salaries of your 2 members of the National Academy of Science in the biology dept to that level? I doubt it, but….
The alternative hypothesis is that UO only pays this kind of money to attract Sr members of the Admin.
credit where you got the photo, it’s not yours.
You’ve linked the reddit post but only refer to the discussion and dont state the photo is from there.
It’s a great photo. If you know who took it I’d be happy to cite them!
You can cite the reddit account that posted it from where you took the screenshot
Happy to – did they take the picture?
you should ask them! they posted the picture, that makes sense. that should have been your first step. for someone who tries to hold people accountable, to not know how to source pictures you take is kind of rediculous
So you are obviously the photographer or know the photographer. If you want credit, reach out to the article writer.
wow. is it me or is there an unusually hostile tone tonight; I mean not like folks here are all kumbaya, but dang. I guess monstrous dildos make people tense.
Anyway, I’m sure the glowing thing is comforting to folks at this difficult time.
It probably is the reddit effect.
