Judgement? energy? All three have a measure of these qualities though in different proportions, but which of them is ready to re-direct the system? Russ too had such qualities…once upon a time, and look what happened to him? Lord Acton would have a field day with this list.
All three noted here have flaws, but the reality is that the kinds of people who might really make a difference have not opted to work within this corrupt system.

We need external outside the UO/OUS system individuals for these positions if we want to “re-direct” the system. All 3 of the named individuals are fine, but nothing will happen if they are hired. So, readers of this forum, what do you think the duties of the Tomlin position should be in a way that makes it possible to re-direct the system. Maybe its not the person (I am not defending Tomlin) maybe its in the nature of the position. And where do you want the system to be re-directed?
So in the spirit of Lord Acton let’s hire “bad men”.
Or to quote Neil Young “plenty bad man”
And, to give one concrete example of system re-direction is let’s change the nature of the student credit hour portfolio and get serious about offering significant credit for internships, undergrad research, etc so that students can get a UO degree by taking less courses and having more real world experience.
Oh yeah, I forgot, were not a vocational school …

It’s Pratt by a mile. Altman is just too desperate for JH approval, she won’t stick up for the faculty. But I don’t know Blandy.

and how would then grade Pratt as an AD for Humanities – effective? innovative? or just a polite listener?
Blandy is a good guy with a lot of common sense and operational competence (therefore he is disqualified) – but he has always been in the AAA school and is very AAA-centric; I think its for more likely, that if we are dumb enough to go internal, someone in CAS will get the job. Personally, I think it should go to MsNic :)

Doug Blandy would be a total disaster! Very, very bad news. His record in AAA shows that he can be a total slimeball – dreadful record on equity issues. Low academic standards. What a shame. I’m staying anonymous because he is very skilled at taking nasty, nasty retribution against those who cross him.
Pratt would be great
