Yes I had previously read this as well as the comments. Thanks for posting it here is I I think this article raises several interesting points regarding various views of national priority when it comes to funding science and practicing science and doing research. No one is yet right or wrong on any of the raised points, but they do bear thinking about and they do reflect on future training of scientists in the US and the fact that science has an important cultural context, that traditional science mostly has ignored.
