I’m guessing it will increase again this fall. Rumor is that it will be a banner year for student FTE. Net, we lost 193 faculty between 2019 and 2020, and I’m assuming will see another hit when this fall’s data is released. Meanwhile rumor has it that student credit hours will hit an all time high this fall.
From IR’s “Teaching Faculty to Student Ratio”[sic] page here:
Rumor I heard for the fall is it is the highest student FTE EVER.
Uh, if the data are correct, they are showing that the student-faculty ratio has decreased a good deal since 2004, mostly since 2011. It’s true there is a slight bump up in the most recent year. But it is the same as it was in 2017. To focus on that is at best misleading, in my opinion. Maybe someone should be asking why enrollment/Student FTE is stagnant — little changed from 2008. I’ll bet the picture is different at most any of our PAC 12 “competitors.”
Point taken but i do wonder what happened to those 193 faculty. Check pioneer cemetery?
How many faculty took the buy-out, or hit the tipping point of diminishing returns relative to PERS and decided to go (or decided the pandemic was enough to move the needle to retirement)? We had a half-dozen leg it, and only two are doing TRP, with the result that our courses are almost all full and we have no resources to expand sections.
I mean, we WOULD have resources to hire GEs and even instructors, but someone swept our departmental funds…
No pioneer cemetery for them, a secret mass grave somewhere is what I hear.
~200 faculty annual loss seems high to me.
Is there a break down available:
TTF vs NTTF
Natural Sciences vs Humanities ??
more digging would be useful
Largest class ever according to AroundtheO. Also, the acceptance rate has decreased.
