Important note: there is a limit of one order PER RESIDENTIAL ADDRESS. That means those of you renting out your “backyard cottages” (ADUs) or who have roommates should be aware you may be denied because “that address has already placed an order.”

Congratulations “Compulsory P” for the most pessimistic comment of the month. I’ve sent the traditional shwag to your roommate.

Alas, it isn’t speculative pessimism. One of my friends ran into this issue and cannot get their four tests because the “main house” already used the address.
My roomie appreciates the swag, though. ;)

As of Jan 10 about “1% of the US [was] being infected with SARS-CoV-2 every day.” https://twitter.com/trvrb/status/1480610448563060738
So about 10% in the past 10 days alone with minor consequence to health if you’re vaxxed & boosted. (Society has not collapsed.) This is good news.

Pre-covid about 7K Americans died every day. Now it’s about 9K.

A lot of this is the aging of the population.
There’s about 350k Covid deaths a year, which means the deaths increasing is really about 1k a day (still nothing to ignore). But the opioid epidemic is now losing 100k lives a year, with an average age of 45, so just as many life years lost annually due to drug abuse now.
Age specific death rates have gone up, but for younger pops that’s most drugs and murders,.
dude, your number for covid deaths is low, the real number is probably about 600,000. But anyway, what does the appalling drug and murder death rate have to do with Covid? And here’s something else: you may learn, probably when you get older, that you’re no less reluctant to die than when you were young. In fact, you may be even more reluctant. And e.g. your grandchildren may miss you no less for being older. Au contraire, perhaps. So the calculus of “life years” does not really capture lived experience.

+1 The “older people are worth less” rationalization has always infuriated me, both by its stupidity and its ubiquity. It’s bigotry pure and simple.
