UOAlert!: Friday classes and events cancelled
February 7th, 2014
UOAlert!: Friday, Feb. 7, 2014 — 9:15 a.m.
The University of Oregon has cancelled classes and events for the remainder of the day (until 6 p.m.) The status of evening events will be posted by 3 p.m.
If only there were someone on the campus who was in charge of UO’s image, marketing- and publicity-wise. Or even anyone on the faculty who could advise in these areas…
What nonsense. This photo was taken earlier in the day, when several other leaf blowers and also snow sweepers were being used all around campus to clear sidewalks and building entrances. You can even see some of them in the other photos in the ODE article. Perfect example of UOM taking things out of context and trying to create a problem where there isn’t one.
Priorities.
Well, all I can say is it would be nice if someone would clear the sidewalk on Kincaid from Ed. to LTD. That always gets very slick and icy.
You’re right, UO Matters is defaming our glorious athletic program. All campus sidewalks have been shoveled and sanded, and the roads are plowed and salted. And I personally saw several Duck football players helping an elderly professor clean his car, and eyeglasses.

What happened with those little ATV’s Frances Dyke bought for the UO police? Put snowplows on them and clear the damn sidewalks?

I dislike UO’s emphasis on athletics as much as anyone, but I also notice good snow-shoveling going on outside academic buildings this morning. Is UOM cherry-picking data?
UOM thrives on cherry-picked data.
You mean like these? https://dl.dropbox.com/u/971644/uomatters/UO%20budget/secret%20moffitt%20ppt%20201212.pdf
Walking home last night I did not see a single sidewalk that looked like it had been cleared. The worst part was crossing the roads, which were very slippery, I saw several women almost fall. No sand.
Why is it that no one sees the hard work and effort the least paid employees on this campus give for the spoiled bad attitude people that can only complain about everything. What about helping make our university a better place instead of complaining because you did not get or earn the gratuitities you think you deserve for breathing the same air as the hard working people that you are always walking all over
It’s about priorities and not providing proper equipment to employees.
At other universities they put snow plows on anything that has four wheels. So why not put some simple snow plows on UOPD’s SUVs and 4×4 trucks?

Right, they can’t drive on the pathways…
I hope nothing on this blog is construed as a complaint about UO’s hard-working and underpaid staff and OAs! It’s about overpaid, not so hard-working central administrators, and their strange spending priorities.
[…] university cancelled classes because (among other things) it couldn’t shovel sidewalks, but it did manage to clear the running track. While I do think that FBS conference teams tend to bow too much to their football overlords, […]
