Gov. puts professors on higher ed boards

That would be Governor McDonnell of Virginia (R), reacting to the UVA President turmoil – and not Governor Kitzhaber of Oregon (D). Washington Post story here. 8/1/2012.

    New legislative concept paper on institutional boards looks pretty good — e.g. boards would include two faculty, one nominated by senate, one by union.

    Good set of guiding principles on page 1, then enough substantive powers (hiring/firing president, bonding authority) in the meat. Only screwy thing is that the SBHE and HECC must approve new programs *and* courses.
