This is from the “Financial Transparency Tool” which you can access through duckweb, off the employee tab. If you drill down you’ll see that this growth over the past 5 years for “University Relations” – which amounts to $4 million a year in recurring costs over the 2008 level – is an underestimate, since the report offsets the spending figures shown with, for example, foundation revenue. Still, it’s a crude look at where UO has been spending the money that could go to faculty salaries. $4 million a year is almost enough to double the faculty salary increases that Gottfredson proposed last week. 3/12/2013.
Face the facts. The only reason faculty are at the University of Oregon is because they want to live in Eugene. If you want prestige, or to be supported in science, or to teach, you’re better off somewhere else.
We’ve been transformed into a center for sports marketing, and that is the goal of this administration. If you’re not helping to that end, you’re at best someone to babysit students and at worst an impediment that needs to be squashed.
Nobody here cares about competitive wages, security, or rewarding good work. If you do care, it’s time to dust off your CV, pack your bags, and be ready to leave.
Stop fighting it. You’ll be much happier. The squeaky wheel may get the grease, but if the wheel squeaks long enough it gets replaced.
