That’s how you recruit good students – tell them they can hang out with other good students who are working hard and loving it. A better idea than taking your administrators on a bowl game junket, and ranting “Go Ducks” at some HS students, as UO did at last year’s Fiesta Bowl recruiting event, organized by our VP for Enrollment Roger Thompson. See link and video here.
And since I doubt OIT has $6M for “Strategic Communications”, they got the students to produce this. While studying for finals. I hope they survived!
11/18/2013: There is nothing to add. This video from the Oregon Institute of Technology is awesome:
I have no idea what the backstory is. Why aren’t UO SOJC students posting stuff like this. Anyone? (See the comments for details).
Send them the money!
Back story is that this simply is a result of a couple of student forums that I have held on campus (along with a couple of faculty forums and community forums). I really do think they nailed it!
You are the President of OIT and you hold forums with faculty and students? Where they can ask you questions and discuss important matters about the institution’s future with you?
You probably don’t understand how strange and wonderful this seems to a UO professor.
I wish President Gottfredson had tried this at UO. Instead it seems he despises his faculty and students, is afraid of us, or has taken his lawyer’s advice not been seen talking with us in public. The few times he has spoken to us – e.g. Senate meetings – have been carefully scripted failures.
PS – I really like your students’ video about midterms. I’m not being sarcastic when I say it would be a great recruiting video, for good students. Come study hard with other students who are doing the same.

Thank you very much for your comment about our students. They do work hard and accomplish quite a lot during their time with us. If you have not seen their video on Dawn of the Dead Week, it too is terrific. And I have actually considered trying to find a way to get the word out about our OTB bunch to a broader audience. Thanks again for your kind words about our students!

Impressed, to say the very least.
