Tim Rohan has the story, here. On Wednesday America’s sportswriters will wake up from their 36 hour hangovers and start in on Dana Altman.

I know today is going to be hard for you and the rest of the athletics haters, Bill. I am sure it’s hard seeing thousands of alum reconnect with their university because of football. I’m sure it’s tough watching all these young kinds have a football player with integrity and kindness and a million other qualities as their role model (snarky economics professors just aren’t as popular these days). Be brave, you’ll get through it.

Sam, lighten up on this wonderful day. Just take heart that a win will justify everything and you are an excellent snarky politician.

Did we win? I was out of town on Sunday – totally forgot to check….

What a credit Helfrich is to the U, the state, and everybody who considers Oregon special. What a great story. It’s funny that I have to read it in the NYT and not in Around the O. It confirms my view that, sadly, the bumblers in JH are lucky to have their jobs. UO is an easy sell and they have to use outside resources to figure out how to do it. On that point, the spot 190/60 did was pretty damn good, captures the idiosyncracies of the campus that made it attractive to me. Notice the quick cameo of Phil Knight as a young runner. Don’t blink.
