Mullens, Lananna, Lorraine Davis get free Jock Box parking

Having a hard time finding a parking spot on campus, despite your $420 parking fee? Not a problem for the Duck athletic nomenklatura. They get free parking in the Jock Box parking lot:

Here’s the list of beneficiaries:

Eric Roedl, Craig Pintens, – wait, Tim Gleason’s not on the list? The MOU allowing this scam is here:

They’re really claiming that the parking spots were “donated as part of the Jaqua Building Gift”? Actually, t was the other way around. UO gave the land to the athletic department for $1. At the time it was being used as a parking lot, very convenient for the Oregon Hall staff. Of course they had to pay to use it. For regular UO employees, reserved parking spots range from $1200-$1800:

Of course regular UO employees don’t get “Courtesy Car Stipends” either:

And why is the hunting license fee so high, at $420? Because the Ducks stuck UO with a large part of the bill for the underground Knight Arena garage.

I had an interesting conversation not long ago with someone in the know who told me athletics gets 100% of all revenue generated from parking during football and basketball events in spite of regulations that otherwise dictate events have to rent all those parking spaces and parking lots owned by UofO.

even if you pay for parking as a UO employee, you get kicked out of athletic spaces at their whim (like at Matt Court during events). They use the revenue to help offset their massive debt. Even if you pay to park on campus, just try to go to Jaqua and see how long you last before getting towed. The parking shortage also indirectly subsidizes Kilkenny’s investments.

Athletics gets parking revenue because they charge a hefty fee for the honor of buying season tickets to the club seats which includes a parking spot for games. I believe that is true for basketball as well….

I feel a little sorry for Devon Shea. Getting a $300 car allowance when everyone else is getting thousands… or is that a typo?

The people who come in to install and remove floors for the stadiums and associated venues have no where to park. They have to pay the ridiculous meter fees AND it’s hard enough to find somewhere during the event they have to stay during.

Speaking of parking shortages does anyone know if the “board” approved the new UO dorm (45 million) to be built at 17th and Moss ? It might require a parking space or two.

Whatever, dood. If you are able-bodied (faculty, administrator, or student) you should be walking/biking/taking public transport to campus anyway. They should close campus-adjacent streets to non-bus traffic; no reason to encourage students/faculty/staff to pollute and contribute to global instability and terrorism via fossil fuel consumption.

Yes, the world would be a much better place if we were all just given orders on how to live our lives from those who know better.

Hippo – I honestly wouldn’t mind if the same applied to the AD folks with free parking at the Jox. As I see it, this is discrimination. Maybe the next round of bargaining will take this baby on?

maaaybe if it didn’t take me an hour and a half to get home on the bus I’d be more willing to take it to/from work.

yes and Gary Campbell is also special since he gets a
    CourTESTY stipend …

Bill, you devil, you: Inserting parking into the discussion is like releasing the Kraken. As Clark Kerr famously put it, “The three purposes of the University?–To provide sex for the students, sports for the alumni, and parking for the faculty.” You hit two out of three . . . .

I have full confidence in our students.

Maybe if we just park there anyway, we could stage our very own “occupy” movement. … Alas the barriers make it very hard to sneak in behind any of the privileged ones. So in the meantime, how about taking smartphone pictures of the ever-empty lot and spamming Uncle Phil with that….
