Helpful Carolina woman uses ladder to fix defective courthouse statue

DIY video on youtube here. I’m no sculptor, but I’m thinking the yankee who sold this thing to Durham would have used a little more bronze if he’d wanted it to be permanent.

are the pioneer mother and father statues on Campus, made of bronze …?

Yes, and they were done by Alexander Proctor, as is the Indian Maiden statue which is now tucked away in a corner of the Art Museum since some thought it too offensive and/or salacious. Proctor also did T.R. Roosevelt in Portland, and many other monumental works, including the statue of the traitor Robert E. Lee which still stands in Dallas. But Proctor specialized in animals, including the horses for statutes of patriots such as William Tecumseh Sherman, Ulysses S. Grant, and John Logan. So he seems to have mostly avoided the many lucrative commissions from the “lost cause” movement and the post Birth of a Nation KKK confederate monument boom. More on his history at UO here, particularly as it involves Treetops: https://uomatters.com/2015/12/uo-foundation-acquires-treetops-mansion-and-26k-tax-bill.html
